Hello and Welcome to Log Cabin Girl!
My name is Brigette and I really do live in a log cabin. Actually, I live in a log cabin on a beautiful lake called Lake Okanagan which is located in the interior of Southern British Columbia
This area know as the Okanagan Valley is surrounded by vinyards and fruit orchards as well as over 140 wineries.
I live with the love of my life Mickey, who is often referred to as Big Bear by the female humans in our family; as well as the other two loves of my life Chloe and Belly who I am quite certain are two little people in Standard Poodle outfits.
Some things about me
I love Animals. Flowers. Bugs. I’d talk to a bee or the duck sitting on my dock before I’d talk to most people. Socially awkward? Perhaps:-)
I cooked homemade meals for my dog Chloe for the first six years of her life.
Big Bear had thought many of those meals were for him. But they weren’t. Haha.
I am an admirer of birds and often tell them how beautiful they are. Because, they really are aren’t they?
And dogs. They are lovely and particularly my favourite domesticated animal right after Big Bear.
Ok, onto people. Don’t get me wrong, I do like people. I like to force feed people when they come to my house for dinner. It would not be unreasonable for me to plop down a 4 inch thick pork chop on your plate and then get mad at you if you don’t have seconds.
I love to cook for anybody that will let me cook for them, including the neighbourhood dogs.
I hate it when people want to help me clean up the dishes afterwards. I will scold you and gently push your little bum bum out of my kitchen. Just be prepared.
so this blog…
So this blog. Obviously my love for food and feeding people has clearly spread onto the internet. I am not a formally trained chef or anything… just a girl that loves cooking and experimenting with food. I’ve cooked for as little as one person to as many as 30 through out the years.
The recipes I use are either inspirations or self creations. In true Brigette fashion, I found myself making these great dishes, then forgetting what I put into them or the method I used. Hence, this blog which is technically my journal.
The “Puppylove” posts will show dog friendly recipes – mainly cookies and treats – that I’ve created for my girls because, well, because I just love ’em so darned much. And there is of course too the odd dog story.
I use a Canon 40EOS for my food photography, usually with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. I’m new to food photography, but have realized that I love taking food photos as much as I love creating the food!
